Who is Greg Lea?

Hailing from London, England, Greg has been a freelance football journalist for eight years. He studied Politics at the University of Nottingham, graduating in 2014. During his time there, he contributed to the sports section of the university magazine, and further whetted his appetite for a future role in journalism through work experience stints at FourFourTwo, The Guardian and The Independent. Greg spent the second half of 2014 in Italy, staying with a local family in Sicily to brush up his language skills and undertake a tutoring placement. He combined this with writing about Serie A for various independent blog sites, such as These Football Times and Back Page Football. This voluntary work soon led to paid freelance positions with FourFourTwo, Squawka and Goal.com.

Upon returning to England, he became a full-time freelancer and received Premier League accreditation for the first time in 2015. He has regularly attended matches ever since, delivering live blogs, on-the-whistle match reports, press conference articles, analytical pieces and general features.Greg worked as the London-based Premier League correspondent for The National, a newspaper based in Abu Dhabi for two years. When this role came to an end, he became the editor of The Set Pieces, where he commissioned stories from high-profile football journalists such as Michael Cox and Tim Vickery. During another editorial project, he worked closely with James Horncastle.

His most regular role has been with FourFourTwo. Greg has written features for the magazine and the website, undertaken news and sub-editing shifts and conducted interviews with various figures within the game. Over the years, he has had other written work published by The Blizzard, ESPN, Eurosport, The Daily Mirror, The Daily Star and Yahoo, while he produces the scripts for YouTube channel Nonstop Football.

Greg has regularly written betting-themed content during his career, including for the likes of WSN, Betsson and Smarkets. He specialises in providing tips for Premier League and Champions League matches, while he has also written about the Europa League, the Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A and Ligue 1. Greg was delighted to be asked to contribute to Irishluck and hopes he is able to continue doing so going forward.

A Crystal Palace fan, he had a season ticket at Selhurst Park for around 20 years. He has watched Palace play at Wembley four times, with a 50 per cent winning record to date.
