Who is Eamon Doggett?

From Meath in Ireland, Eamon has been involved in sports journalism for over five years. He studied Business and Politics at Trinity College in Dublin before pursuing a Master's Degree in Writing at NUI Galway. During his time in Galway, he contributed articles to the student newspaper, Sin, and returned to his childhood passion for fiction writing. He was the recipient of the 2019 Hennessy First Fiction Award.

After graduating from Galway, he had a short stint in accountancy before starting a job for the Irish Daily Mirror newspaper. Writing about a wide range of sports - including GAA, horse racing, golf, football, rugby, boxing, and MMA - he quickly got the opportunity to interview many sports stars and establish a large network of contacts in the industry.

However, horse racing would always be the answer if asked to identify his enduring sporting passion. Since asking his father to put a bet on the royal blue silks of Frankie Dettori (as he liked the colour), he has always had a very keen interest in the sport. While he attended many local race meetings - Navan, Laytown, Bellewstown, and Fairyhouse - his position with the Mirror allowed him enviable access to many of the racing's most prominent figures. For many years, he has covered major events like the Cheltenham Festival and the Punchestown Festival.
